Nepotism At The White House; Obama Appoints His Sister

What’s in a name? That which we call Obama by any other name would smell as corrupt…

Obama has just appointed his half sister Maya to the Commission of White House Fellowships.

What pray-tell is the Commission of White House Fellowships?

Every year, the White House Fellows program offers a small number of America’s most promising young leaders an opportunity to participate in government at the highest levels. The White House Fellows program is one of the most prestigious and selective fellowship programs for leadership development and public service in the country. White House Fellows are selected by the President’s Commission on White House Fellowships, a nonpartisan commission of thirty to forty leading American citizens representing a range of backgrounds and professions. All commission members are appointed by the president; many are former White House Fellows.

Maya Lin, Obama’s half sister, has been selected to be on this commission.  Her section in the document was quite beefy, but said absolutely nothing.  It listed her achievements, of which are all art, architecture, and design.  I think it’s wonderful that she has won awards but, what specific qualification make her right for a position on a White House board?  I know the answer to that: Nothing!

It’s not like this hasn’t happened before, even in the private sector.  Nepotism runs rampant and people are promoted or receive job offers based solely on their last name.  However, if you are to be President of the United States and campaign on “change” and new beginnings – then stop using old, tired, corrupt practices like Nepotism.  I’m not surprised since he has already reneged on most of his promises - i.e. appointing lobbyists to his cabinet.

“The men and women of this commission embody what makes the White House Fellows program so special,” said President Obama. “These leaders are diverse, non-partisan, and committed to mentoring our next generation of public servants. I’m confident that they will select a class of White House Fellows that demonstrate extraordinary leadership, strong character, and a deep commitment to serving their country.”

“The White House Fellows program is so important as it allows for a variety of perspectives to come together to offer expertise and experience on important policy issues and then these Fellows carry what they’ve learned back to their own communities to benefit Americans far outside the walls of the White House,” said First Lady Michelle Obama.

Non-partisan and diverse?  I’m sure certain people will be selected based on their ideological leanings.  Michelle and Barack love civil service (HR 1388 & HR 1444)… When Tom Brokaw, Hockenberry, and Maya Lin are selected as members of the Commission, I find it incredibly difficult to picture non-partisan decisions.

Could you imagine if Bush selected Jeb or one of his brothers to be part of this Commission? LOL!
