Conflict Of Interest Recovery Act – Newsprint May be Kept Alive

The only thing most of the newspapers (esp. those who are already “part” of the DNC) are good for is toilet paper, or at least some sort of “cover” for my puppy who is still learning how to properly go outside rather than my kitchen floor.  Actually, newspaper is good for fireplace kindling as well – but I tend to use coupons and advertisements since I refuse to subsribe to certain “rags.”

However, there is a U.S. Bill that is seeking to rescue these failing newspapers.  What happened to our capitalist society or following free market principles?  My head is raw these days from so much scratching.

With many U.S. newspapers struggling to survive, a Democratic senator on Tuesday introduced a bill to help them by allowing newspaper companies to restructure as nonprofits with a variety of tax breaks.

“This may not be the optimal choice for some major newspapers or corporate media chains but it should be an option for many newspapers that are struggling to stay afloat,” said Senator Benjamin Cardin.

A Cardin spokesman said the bill had yet to attract any co-sponsors, but had sparked plenty of interest within the media, which has seen plunging revenues and many journalist layoffs.

Cardin’s Newspaper Revitalization Act would allow newspapers to operate as nonprofits for educational purposes under the U.S. tax code, giving them a similar status to public broadcasting companies.

Under this arrangement, newspapers would still be free to report on all issues, including political campaigns. But they would be prohibited from making political endorsements.

I am totally ashamed to admit that I reside in Maryland.  I hope that someone gets up and runs against old Ben Cardin as well as Ms. Toadstool Mikulski.  The Maryland senators are just as far left and liberal as the rest of the yahoos running congress.  The Baltimore Sun, for example, has been on the liberal dole for ages – they were even behind the Michael Steele debacle when he was running for office and giving a speech – to have people come to the event and throw Oreo cookies at him.  That’s not racist at all, right democrats?? Can’t be racist when you’re just doing it to someone with an “R” after their name/sarc.

More Unconstitutional Mayhem; Obama Wants Expanded Power to Seize Firms

The Obama administration is considering asking Congress to give the Treasury secretary unprecedented powers to initiate the seizure of non-bank financial companies, such as large insurers, investment firms and hedge funds, whose collapse would damage the broader economy, according to an administration document.

I may have joked around in the past and a lot of my statements were dripping with sarcasm, however, we really are in the USSA if this plan passes congress and is signed into law.  This is completely unconstitutional and gives the government too much power – something I will finally admit, think that Obama and his cronies want so they can fundamentally reshape America.

The government at present has the authority to seize only banks.

Which it shouldn’t have had in the first place, no thanks to Bush!

Giving the Treasury secretary authority over a broader range of companies would mark a significant shift from the existing model of financial regulation, which relies on independent agencies that are shielded from the political process. The Treasury secretary, a member of the president’s Cabinet, would exercise the new powers in consultation with the White House, the Federal Reserve and other regulators, according to the document.

There was a reason why the regulation was conducted by independent and non-partisan institutions…

The administration plans to send legislation to Capitol Hill this week. Sources cautioned that the details, including the Treasury’s role, are still in flux.

After the H.R. 1388 bill passed yesterday for National Service – I won’t hold my breath, hoping that specific RINOs in the party won’t vote for this intentional power grab.

Chrysler & GM Have Their Hands Out Again; Sweden Moves Right, Tells Volvo “No.”

March 21 (Bloomberg) — General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC may need “considerably” more than the $21.6 billion in aid they requested, which was based on optimistic recovery plans, said Steven Rattner, the Treasury’s chief auto adviser.

President Barack Obama’s auto task force is assessing proposals from GM and Chrysler to decide whether to recommend U.S. assistance or tip the carmakers into bankruptcy. Rattner made the comments yesterday on Bloomberg Television’s “Political Capital with Al Hunt,” airing this weekend. Read more

Do You Feel More Prosperous Today?

02/12/09

This week Obama and his traveling minstrels have been holding tent revivals across the eastern states.  As savior of the world, he has made women swoon and young men shout to the heavens praising his name.  In his camp meetings Obama has made clear that his plan for us will create jobs, save homes, and put money in our pockets.  He promised everything to his children like any good messiah would.  Right?

While he was bringing his message of salvation, his closest disciples were cramped together chiseling out the final details of his commandments.  As they descended from the mountain we find enscribed on the tablets: $46 billion highway, bridge and mass transit construction.  (If you are an equipment operator or a ditch digger, this is good news.  I’m college educated, I wonder if I could be a ‘digger of ditches’).  Also bestowed upon us is a 60 percent subsidy to help the unemployed pay for COBRA.  (I’m still trying to find out if that is retroactive for those thousands of people whose grace period for applying for COBRA has expired).  The provision for helping prospective home buyers is all but cut.  The $15,000 tax credit for anybody buying a home over the next year was dropped; instead, first-time homebuyers can claim an $8,000 credit; but you have to act fast!  It only lasts until the end of August.  (Since the banks aren’t loaning money, good luck with that one folks).  Out of the $790 billion dollars being spent for this stimulus and the $2 plus TRILLION dollars Geithner wants to spend and the more than $2 trillion already spent to get us out of this “crisis,” Obama’s loyal minions can expect to receive, on average, $13 per week from late spring until January.  Then it gets scaled back to $8 per week.  Last week our savior told the world that with his plan his sheep “will be able to get that car repaired, pay bills, buy groceries.”  He later told us, not to go to Las Vegas.  I don’t know about you but I am taking my $13 and investing it.  Thirteen lotto tickets.
