“The Worrisome Veteran”

Or Should more aptly be called The Worrisome Educator

Penn State University’s “Department of Counseling and Psychological Services” has a video presentation that should leave any decent American shocked, saddened, and yes, even enraged.  Credit David French of National Review Online for posting what might be the most definitive four minute expose on the tragedy of higher education in America.  Indeed, Penn State’s shameful video production of “The Worrisome Veteran” can provide all Americans some priceless insights into the kind of surreal institutions liberals create when left unchecked.
“The Worrisome Veteran” is part of Penn State’s “Worrisome Student Behaviors” video series which is designed to provide faculty and students the ability to “minimize risk” when encountering problematic students on campus.  Each video presents actors reenacting possible confrontations that may occur in various environments and suggests appropriate responses. The subtitle of the “Worrisome Veteran” presentation is: “I deserve a better grade or else . . .” In other words, to the progressive staff at Penn State, students who are veterans returning from the war in Iraq are simply potential criminals who’ve forgotten how to reason politely.

I will break this disturbing portrayal down into several sections:

1.  PSU and other institutions for higher education are singling out veterans and young military white males, specifically, returning home from war to receive an education.  The fact that veterans are being segregated is horrendous and discriminatory as should be clear to any clear-thinking human being.

2.  The female professor talks about feeling uneasy and uncomfortable with the veteran and why would that be?  It would seem like she is making the assumption that all military vets are aggressors and women-beaters on the brink of snapping at any moment.  This may be something portrayed in Hollywood or by the media who may harp on one individual to classify the entire group as such, but this happens to all people and more so for the average non-military type.

3.  The video uses the argument of the ex-officer having and using bad grammar as a reason to give a low grade.  What struck me was that they make an assumption that men and women in uniform are uneducated hill-billy’s another misconception that was echoed by the likes of the traitor, himself, John Kerry, when he said that only uneducated men and women join the military.

4.  Why is the professor only telling him what he is doing wrong and making it very vague?  She should be giving him specifics should she not?  I would expect that a professor or any teacher would sit down with me during office hours to take the time and point out to me what areas of my english need improvement – do I have too many run-on sentences?  Am I incorrectly using prepositions?  Is my punctuation off?  One would think that an English Professor would be able to do this more so than, let’s say a Math Professor!

5.  The mere fact that this video has to bring up the fact that the student is feeling singled out and discriminated against due to the professor’s views on the war and political leanings, tell me more about the educators at this university than anything else.  They are basically saying that these views are held by a vast majority of the faculty at PSU and this could be a reason why students get upset.   Why would any English Professor espouse their views in such a class?  It’s not like this is a foreign diplomacy class or some type of political science class.

6.  Why does the teacher feel that it is acceptable to diagnose the student by telling him he needs counseling or help?  This is something the student must come to grips with if he or she in fact asks for help or discloses they are having issues.  The assumption made by the teacher is incredibly condescending and yet again discriminatory.  Many men and women coming home from war have been getting diagnosed with PTSD lately, but that does not mean that the majority of these cases are military folks.  In fact most PTSD cases are those who are not associated with the military at all since PTSD is incredibly common and can occur due to any type of traumatic experience!  PTSD also does not mean that someone will snap… another common misconception.

6.  PSU is a PUBLIC school and has land grants this means that the PEOPLE own this land and there shouldn’t be political bias allowed in such institutions.  If the faculty would like to discuss their views and opinions behind closed doors among one another or at happy hour then so be it, but inside the classroom and in front of children that are not their own should be banned.

7.  Could there be any coincidence with the latest DHS report and this university creating this video?  DHS did tell us that veterans returning home are more susceptible to right-wing extremism!

This is becoming insane!

DHS Secretary Sings A Different Tune To Veterans Today

Janet Napolitanos’ DHS last week issued a report that basically said returning veterans were being categorized as right wing extremists and possible domestic terror threats. The report noted U.S. service members specifically.
However, veterans groups and ordinary citizens were outraged the we in uniform would be tagged as right wing extremists. After all, it is those young men and women who are out there protecting freedom and liberty. Who is Ms Napolitano to label us anything less than proud Americans! So late this week she changed here tune after the fall out:

The head of homeland security said Sunday she regrets that some people took offense over a report warning that right-wing extremist groups were trying to recruit disgruntled troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

But Secretary Janet Napolitano added that “a number of groups far too numerous to mention” want to commit domestic terrorism attacks and are looking for new recruits.

She told a cable news network the warning report that went out to American law enforcement agencies was consistent with reports that were issued before.

“Here is the important point. The report is not saying that veterans are extremists. Far from it. What it is saying is returning veterans are targets of right-wing extremist groups that are trying to recruit those to commit violent acts within the country. We want to do all we can to prevent that,” she said.

Notice she did not take back the original asessment, but simply tries to clarify the position. But I guess we should be glad this is an “apologetic” administration. So I guess we still know how they really feel.

Homegrown Terrorism!? Napolitano is an Ideological Hack

I guess she should consider herself an extremist with that gun – anyone who practices or believes in the 2nd amendment was placed in that 9 page report from the DHS a couple of days ago.  Conveniently, this all came out right before the nationwide Tea Party protests. Read more

American Legion Responds to being Called an Extremist Group

The Letter Reads:

Dear Secretary Napolitano,

On behalf of the 2.6 million-member American Legion, I am stating my concern about your April 7 report, “Rightwing Extremism: Current Economic and Political Climate Fueling Resurgence and Recruitment.”

First, I want to assure you that The American Legion has long shared your concern about white supremacist and anti-government groups. In 1923, when the Ku Klux Klan still yielded unspeakable influence in this country, The American Legion passed Resolution 407. It resolved, in part, “…we consider any individual, group of individuals or organizations, which creates, or fosters racial, religious or class strife among our people, or which takes into their own hands the enforcement of law, determination of guilt, or infliction of punishment, to be un-American, a menace to our liberties, and destructive to our fundamental law…”

The best that I can say about your recent report is that it is incomplete. The report states, without any statistical evidence, “The possible passage of new restrictions on firearms and the return of military veterans facing significant challenges reintegrating into their communities could lead to the potential emergence of terrorist groups or lone wolf extremists capable of carrying out violent attacks.”

The American Legion is well aware and horrified at the pain inflicted during the Oklahoma City bombing, but Timothy McVeigh was only one of more than 42 million veterans who have worn this nation’s uniform during wartime. To continue to use McVeigh as an example of the stereotypical “disgruntled military veteran” is as unfair as using Osama bin Laden as the sole example of Islam.

Your report states that “Rightwing extremists were concerned during the 1990s with the perception that illegal immigrants were taking away American jobs through their willingness to work at significantly lower wages.” Secretary Napolitano, this is more than a perception to those who have lost their job. Would you categorize union members as “Right Wing extremists”?

In spite of this incomplete, and, I fear, politically-biased report, The American Legion and the Department of Homeland Security share many common and crucial interests, such as the Citizen Corps and disaster preparedness. Since you are a graduate of New Mexico Girls State, I trust that you are very familiar with The American Legion. I would be happy to meet with you at a time of mutual convenience to discuss issues such as border security and the war on terrorism. I think it is important for all of us to remember that Americans are not the enemy. The terrorists are.

DHS Report Targeting and Attacking Conservatives! Are You a Right-Wing Extremist?

This is unreal and I read some of it on Michelle Malkin’s website today!  This is just insane and it shows the lengths of which the Obama administration will go in order to crush dissent, freedom of speech, the right to protest etc.  Unless of course the speech, protests or dissenters are on the left and in favor of their policies.

To review the PDF document that was put together by DHS click here…

This report is a hack job and your B.S. meter should be going off ~ in fact I have two B.S. Meters that are reaching overload!

Well, color me bad and call me a right wing extremist.  I oppose big centralized government that steps on first amendment rights and tries to force their beliefs on everyone else.  I’m not sure why that is considered extreme, but I guess if you aren’t a conformist you are an extremist.

Here are a couple of sections from the report:

Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly antigovernment, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.

So basically, if I believe in the fundamental platforms of the republican party which is federalism, that means I’m an extremist?  If I am a social conservative then I am an extremist?  What about all those Prop. 8 protesters who vandalized churches and beat up old women? Were they not extremists?  How about all those women who only vote one issue on the liberal side, pro-choice – would they not be considered extremists?

And as Ms. Malkin explains, extremists are normally tied to specific groups.  They try to make “skin heads” part of the republican movement but technically they are anarchists and aren’t associated with any party.  They forget to include the fact that most extremist groups have been on the left, many of which are environmental terrorist groups like ALF and ELF.

(U//LES) Rightwing extremists are harnessing this historical election as a recruitment tool. Many rightwing extremists are antagonistic toward the new presidential administration and its perceived stance on a range of issues, including immigration and citizenship, the expansion of social programs to minorities, and restrictions on firearms ownership and use. Rightwing extremists are increasingly galvanized by these concerns and leverage them as drivers for recruitment. From the 2008 election timeframe to the present, rightwing extremists have capitalized on related racial and political prejudices in expanded propaganda campaigns, thereby reaching out to a wider audience of potential sympathizers.

This was all written by a far left loon to paint conservatives into a corner.  Here they are again playing the race card, yet, Democrats have always been the party of racism and oppression… This is turning into insanity – Please Wake Up America!

(U//FOUO) DHS/I&A will be working with its state and local partners over the next several months to ascertain with greater regional specificity the rise in rightwing extremist activity in the United States, with a particular emphasis on the political, economic, and social factors that drive rightwing extremist radicalization.

Well, my fellow readers, bloggers and friends – I will probably be one of the first to be carted off to the “re-education camps” if DHS comes knocking – LOL – I’m laughing because this is so sad, pathetic and ridiculous.

Go to Michelle’s website for her write-up and opinion on the rest.
