Winston, come into the dining room, it’s time to eat,” Julia yelled to her husband. “In a minute, honey, it’s a tie score,” he answered.

Actually, Winston wasn’t very interested in the traditional holiday football game between Detroit and Washington. Ever since the government passed the Civility in Sports Statute of 2017, outlawing tackle football for its “unseemly violence” and the “bad example it sets for the rest of the world,” Winston was far less of a football fan than he used to be. Two-hand touch wasn’t nearly as exciting.

Yet it wasn’t the game that Winston was uninterested in.  It was more the thought of eating another Tofu Turkey. Even though it was the best type of VeggieMeat available after the government revised the American Anti-Obesity Act of 2018, adding fowl to the list of federally-forbidden foods, (which already included potatoes, cranberry sauce and mince-meat pie), it wasn’t anything like real turkey. And ever since the government officially changed the name of “Thanksgiving Day” to “A National Day of Atonement” in 2020 to officially acknowledge the Pilgrims’ historically brutal treatment of Native Americans, the holiday had lost a lot of its luster.

Eating in the dining room was also a bit daunting. The unearthly gleam of government-mandated fluorescent light bulbs made the Tofu Turkey look even weirder than it actually was, and the room was always cold. Ever since Congress passed the Power Conservation Act of 2016, mandating all thermostats – which were monitored and controlled by the electric company – be kept at 68 degrees, every room on the north side of the house was barely tolerable throughout the entire winter.

Still, it was good getting together with family. Or at least most of the family. Winston missed his mother, who passed on in October, when she had used up her legal allotment of life-saving medical treatment. He had had many heated conversations with the Regional Health Consortium, spawned when the private insurance market finally went bankrupt, and everyone was forced into the government health care program. And though he demanded she be kept on her treatment, it was a futile effort. “The RHC’s resources are limited,” explained the government bureaucrat Winston spoke with on the phone. “Your mother received all the benefits to which she was entitled. I’m sorry for your loss.”

Ed couldn’t make it either. He had forgotten to plug in his electric car last night, the only kind available after the Anti-Fossil Fuel Bill of 2021 outlawed the use of the combustion engines-for everyone but government officials. The fifty mile round trip was about ten miles too far, and Ed didn’t want to spend a frosty night on the road somewhere between here and there.

Thankfully, Winston’s brother, John, and his wife were flying in. Winston made sure that the dining room chairs had extra cushions for the occasion. No one complained more than John about the pain of sitting down so soon after the government-mandated cavity searches at airports, which severely aggravated his hemorrhoids. Ever since a terrorist successfully smuggled a cavity bomb onto a jetliner, the TSA told Americans the added “inconvenience” was an “absolute necessity” in order to stay “one step ahead of the terrorists.” Winston’s own body had grown accustomed to such probing ever since the government expanded their scope to just about anywhere a crowd gathered, via Anti-Profiling Act of 2022. That law made it a crime to single out any group or individual for “unequal scrutiny,” even when probable cause was involved. Thus, cavity searches at malls, train stations, bus depots, etc., etc., had become almost routine. Almost.

The Supreme Court is reviewing the statute, but most Americans expect a Court composed of six progressives and three conservatives to leave the law intact. “A living Constitution is extremely flexible,” said the Court’s eldest member, Elena Kagan. ” Europe has had laws like this one for years. We should learn from their example,” she added.

Winston’s thoughts turned to his own children. He got along fairly well with his 12-year-old daughter, Brittany, mostly because she ignored him. Winston had long ago surrendered to the idea that she could text anyone at any time, even during Atonement Dinner. Their only real confrontation had occurred when he limited her to 50,000 texts a month, explaining that was all he could afford. She whined for a week, but got over it.

His 16-year-old son, Jason, was another matter altogether. Perhaps it was the constant bombarding he got in public school that global warming, the bird flu, terrorism or any of a number of other calamities were “just around the corner”, but Jason had developed a kind of nihilistic attitude that ranged between simmering surliness and outright hostility. It didn’t help that Jason had reported his father to the police for smoking a cigarette in the house, an act made criminal by the Smoking Control Statute of 2018, which outlawed smoking anywhere within 500 feet of another human being. Winston paid the $5,000 fine, which might have been considered excessive before the American dollar became virtually worthless as a result of QE13. The latest round of quantitative easing the federal government initiated was, once again, to “spur economic growth.” This time they promised to push unemployment below its years-long rate of 18%, but Winston was not particularly hopeful.

Yet the family had a lot for which to be thankful, Winston thought, before remembering it was a Day of Atonement. At least he had his memories. He felt a twinge of sadness when he realized his children would never know what life was like in the Good Old Days, long before government promises to make life “fair for everyone” realized their full potential. Winston, like so many of his fellow Americans, never realized how much things could change when they didn’t happen all at once, but little by little, so people could get used to them.

He wondered what might have happened if the public had stood up while there was still time, maybe back around 2011, when all the real nonsense began. “Maybe we wouldn’t be where we are today if we’d just said ‘enough is enough’ when we had the chance,” he thought.

Maybe so, Winston. Maybe so.

A new study by the federal government, commissioned by Rep. Henry Waxman (D-CA) and Rep. Edward Markey of (D-MA), and perhaps intended as a weapon against opponents of Pelosi’s national energy tax, has instead, blown up in their faces.

The Study by the Energy Information Administration, which provides official energy statistics from the U.S. Government itself, addresses the economic impacts of H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

This act, the televised circus-like passing in the House of Representatives, of which started the Jolly Rogers website, is a complex bill that regulates greenhouse gas emissions through various mechanisms, incentives and programs.

The study found that electric bills for the average household will increase dramatically – between 19 and 30 percent and even with the rosiest of scenarios – that is, a proliferation of clown cars across America by 2030, there will only be between a 12 and 20 percent reduction in CO2 emissions.

According to the government study, Cap and Trade “increases the cost of using energy, which reduces real economic output, reduces purchasing power, and lowers aggregate demand for goods and services. The result is that projected real gross domestic product (GDP) generally falls…”

This means, that an American household with a bill of $70 a month, will see that cost balloon to nearly $100 – and all this while they are dutifully cruising around in their clown cars, and trying to pay for these things without jobs. The study seems to agree with previous work by the Heritage Foundation and the National Black Chamber of Commerce – both which found that “cap and trade” could destroy as many as 2.5 million jobs.

In fact EIA projects total discounted GDP losses between 2012 and 2030 to be about $566 billion on the low side, with a potential loss of nearly $1,897 billion.

And it doesn’t stop there. According to the government’s own most recent study – commissioned by the very people trying to force this energy program onto the public, the whole thing requires the U.S. “significantly increase the total amount of new electric capacity due to the retirement of many existing coal-fired power plants that otherwise would be expected to continue operating beyond 2030.

So, for this wonderful utopian plan to work, the citizens have to absorb higher and higher bills, drive smaller and smaller cars, build an entire grid of new electric-producing stations and destroy all the old ones – across the entire nation. And we must do it while more and more families lose their main source of income.

Lastly – and here’s the capper – the EIA study found that this new energy substitute requires that in “all cases” site and planning processes must be changed so that they can “support a large-scale transformation of the Nation’s electricity infrastructure by 2030.”

So all those pesky public hearings which have been necessary in the past, before the government begins to build a particular project – all that would need a bit of work. Basically, we’d have to just allow the government to seize whatever land they want, so they can begin building immediately.

The study summary ends with this paragraph:

Challenges beyond 2030. As previously noted, the modeling horizon for this analysis ends in 2030. Unless substantial progress is made in identifying low- and no-carbon technologies outside of electricity generation, the ACESA emissions targets for the 2030-to-2050 period are likely to be very challenging as opportunities for further reductions in power sector emissions are exhausted and reductions in other sectors are thought to be more expensive.

So can anyone explain to me with numbers and facts like these, why this even passed through the House? Is there any explanation for even a few people to continue to support this? Is it likely that the other countries producing massive amounts of greenhouse gasses, will sign on to this kind of a plan as well? Because if you accept the global warming scenario, you have to remember the most important term in there – “global.” Without global support, a program like this in the U.S. will simply bankrupt the country – of course, we already are bankrupt. The alleged stimulus plan did that.

For the rest of you out there, just barely making it from month to month with your $70 electric bill – hold on. Just hang in there. Change will come. Not “change we can believe in,” but real change. The storm is upon us – the darkness is upon us – but tomorrow will be a new day. And we will one day breathe again as a truly free people.

And for you people in the ivory towers – you Congressmen – our alleged leadership, know this:

We are coming for you. We are coming for you all.

Yesterday was good news for those believing in freedom, small government, and democracy.  The Senate does not plan on voting for Cap and Tax until September.  This delay will certainly give  us more time to change minds,  write letters, send emails, and melt the phones of our representatives.  We must continue to do so, even whilst they are away for the month of August.  The beginning of the next session begins immediately after Labor Day in which the Senate plans on voting/passing an immigration reform bill.  September will be a very busy month for those of us fighting for our country.  Hopefully the impact of the 9/12 tea party protest will be felt far and wide.  I also hope that we do a little more – Since Congress begins the new session after Labor Day, which is the week of the massive 9/12 March on DC, why not take the week off as vacation time and engage in a sit-in on the steps of Capitol Hill as our Congress-critters come back to work for the first day after their summer vacation!?  It’s time to make them realize who they work for; a good government is one that fears its people.

Tell your congressman/woman that the EPA admits Cap and Tax will not work.

The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee began their hearings on the 1,500 page Waxman-Markey cap and trade legislation Tuesday, and ranking member Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) won a startling admission from Environmental Protection Agency administrator Lisa Jackson. Inhofe produced an EPA chart generated last year during the Senate’s debate of the Lieberman-Warner cap and trade legislation. The chart showed that the carbon reductions under that bill would not materially effect global carbon concentrations in the atmosphere. Inhofe then asked Jackson if she agreed with the chart’s conclusions. Jackson replied: “I believe that essential parts of the chart are that the U.S. action alone will not impact CO2 levels.”

Also at the hearing, Energy Secretary Steven Chu said he did not agree with chart which is interesting since all the best science confirms Inhofe’s and Jackson’s conclusions. For example, a recent study of cap and trade by MIT concluded: “The different U.S. policies have relatively small effects on the CO2 concentration if other regions do not follow the U.S. lead. … The Developed Only scenario cuts only about 0.5 °C of the warming from the reference, again illustrating the importance of developing country participation.”

Michelle Malkin and Nate Silver put some great information together regarding the “softies” on cap and tax in the Senate.  There is a chance to change several Democrat’s minds, especially those living in energy and coal producing states. (Don’t forget the liberal repubbies either)!

There is also some new and interesting data coming from those reading through the bill now that it has been posted.  One of those interesting tidbits is the amount of money going to ACORN in a CLIMATE CHANGE bill:

“The American people will see tax dollars go to so-called community development organizations like ACORN, to teach low-income residents how to live in accord with the worldview of the Environmental Left,” scowled a news release yesterday from Congressional critics of the Cap and Trade bill.

Sure enough, there are 19 mentions of the term “community development” in the bill, but nothing specific about ACORN.

Sec. 264 of the bill is on “Low Income Community Energy Efficiency Program,” which says the feds will dole out grant money to community development organizations “to provide financing to businesses and projects that improve energy efficiency” for low-income residents.

On page 561, the bill authorizes $50 million per year for six fiscal years, so that’s $300 million in all for these kind of programs.

“I just want to know if ACORN would qualify for these grants,” said House GOP Leader John Boehner, who was the only Republican to note the ACORN issue during debate on the House floor.

Just out of curiosity I began digging on the past and current donations of the 8 Benedict Arnold’s of the Republican Party who voted in favor of cap-and-trade.

As I began to investigate who donated significant amounts to each candidate’s piggy bank, I noticed there was a common trend; these 8 GOPers all had enviro-groups, unions, & alternative energy companies putting money in their coffers.

As an interesting aside, there is a PAC called the Tuesday Group PAC and for all intents and purposes, it may as well be called the RINO PAC ~ 6 out of the 8 tr8ors were funded by this PAC.

Those same 6 are also funded by the Republican “Main Street” Partnership PAC ~ another RINO group.

Recall that GE and Honeywell at one point tried to merge – Honeywell has contributed to almost all of these 8 candidates and GE to some as well.  GE is predominantly Democrat, so that should tell you something and at times GE has contributed for the 2010 campaign but did not contribute prior to that… Could the “eight” be getting a deal from both? GE and Honeywell are advocates of global warming and the cap-and-trade system.

Mary Bono Mack is part of the energy and commerce committee, headed by none other than, Henry Waxman, of the Waxman-Markey notoriety.  One could surmise that she was promised something by Waxman and Pelosi and possibly wanted to make her “boss” proud.  However, I was also interested to find out who donates to her.

I believe there is a lot more investigation that will need to be done in order to fully grasp what these 8 were promised from Waxman and Pelosi, rather than just reviewing their campaign contributions.  I also have suspicions regarding the New Jersey 3 as to where many of these green companies and technologies reside.  New Jersey has its very own clean energy initiatives/policies for its state and a long list of companies who are involved.

I hope we can get to the bottom of it and find out what it takes to sell out your party, your constituents, but worst of all; your country.

The country was sold into government slavery and economic chaos by the traitorous GOP 8, who voted for the Cap and Tax bill today.  The House spent over 5 hours debating this piece of legislation and there were high hopes that the Democrats didn’t have enough votes to pass it.  It turns out that the GOP had some Benedict Arnold’s in their midst.

I want to know what each traitor was offered to sell us out and I’m very curious to figure out the money trail in New Jersey, which has a huge clean energy program as well as various renewable energy sources.  Even Rohrabacher R-CA didn’t vote for the bill even though Clean Energy Fuels Corp. (the company that T. Boone Pickens and Pelosi are vested in) is headquartered in his district (46). 

It would have been nice if the media actually did its job and discussed real news that has a massive effect on the lives of Americans, rather than Michael Jackson’s obvious drug use and death.  Most Americans are opposed to this legislation, but many were unaware that Congress was voting on it today – Wouldn’t it be nice if we could one day have an objective media that would actually give both sides to every story and read things like the suppressed EPA report on GloBull Warming?  It’s late, so I can dream about it…

Obama has become quite good at covering up incidents, but I guess you have to be good if you want to be engaged in the Chicago Political MachineMafia… That’s why the latest cover-up by the EPA for recent emails regarding some interesting findings regarding GloBull Warming, and the latest Obama administration cover-up of the canning of the bio-ethics panel for embryonic stem cell research, come as no surprise.

The EPA must be aware that something fishy is going on with the global warming alarmism.  Why else would they cover up recent emails, found by the Competitive  Enterprise Institute, that voiced the opposite concerns of what Democrats, the UN, and the EPA would have you believe?

CEI is submitting a set of four EPA emails, dated March 12-17, 2009, which indicate that a significant internal critique of EPA’s position on Endangerment was essentially put under wraps and concealed. The study was barred from being circulated within EPA, it was never disclosed to the public, and it was not placed in the docket of this proceeding. The emails further show that the study was treated in this manner not because of any problem with its quality, but for political reasons.

CEI hereby requests that EPA make this study public, place it into the docket, and either extend or reopen the comment period to allow public response to this new study. We also request that EPA publicly declare that it will engage in no reprisals against the author of the study, who has worked at EPA for over 35 years.

The emails, attached hereto, consist of the following:

1) a March 12 email from Al McGartland, Office Director of EPA’s National Center for Environmental Economics (NCEE), to Alan Carlin, Senior Operations Research Analyst at NCEE, forbidding him from speaking to anyone outside NCEE on endangerment issues;

2) a March 16 email from Mr. Carlin to another NCEE economist, with a cc to Mr. McGartland and two other NCEE staffers, requesting that his study be forwarded to EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation, which directs EPA’s climate change program. The email notes the quantity of peer-reviewed references in the study, and defends its inclusion of new research as well. It states Mr. Carlin’s view that “the critical attribute of good science is its correspondence to observable data rather than where it appears in
the technical literature.” It goes on to point out that the new studies “explain much of the observational data that have been collected which cannot be explained by the IPCC models.” (Emphases added);  [Read More Here.]

This data will never reach the media, and even if it did, most far left media outlets will not disclose the information anyway.  Nobody wants to destroy the scheme that has been built up over the last few years.  The jig is up Democrats, but they have too much money to make from cap and tax and passing Green legislation.  They would rather pad their pockets than release this information to the American public.

The latest firing and cover-up happens to involve the bio-ethics panel for embryonic stem cell research.  Bush implemented this panel for opposing views and ethics regarding that specific type of research.  The panel expired in September and only had one other meeting before that time, however, Obama fired he panel before allowing them to expire appropriately when their time was up.  This sounds very familiar to the IGs who happened to disagree with Obama or were investigating his cronies.  He fired those IGs and now this panel before their contracts expired.  I’m not sure why Obama feels it so difficult to allow the law to reign supreme and just not renew the contracts when time is up.  There is something extremely suspicious about all of this.

The White House has dismissed the members of the President’s US Council on Bioethics just a few months before their mandate expires, indicating their services are no longer required by the President and that he is looking for a more “practical” advisory board.

So, if you don’t agree with Obama and his agenda count yourself on the enemy list – you are bound to get fired or savaged by his media minions.

Nancy Pelosi is set to make millions of dollars if cap and tax is passed on Friday.  She currently has an estimated $15K-50K worth of shares invested in Clean Energy Fuels Corporation (CLNE).  This company is of course heavily vested in alternative energy sources and given the fact that any legislation that passes effecting the energy sector will undoubtedly up the price of any public company currently trading in that sector on the stock market.

T. Boone Pickens is also a big investor of CLNE and he has been lobbying for clean energy for a number of years.  He is set to make millions, if not billions from cap and tax.  T. Boone was not very happy when he found out about Alaska Governor, Sarah Palin’s deal with Exxon Mobile, Trans-Canada and AGIA.  Natural gas and oil supplies, if we were able to manufacture them in our own backyard would put big “Green” moguls out of business.  Natural gas is also a compound that CLNE is vested in and given the fact that supply would be limited and demand high, prices would sky-rocket - now, if Palin’s gas-line comes to fruition, volume and supply of natural gas will increase for everyone and therefore the price will go down…

Shares of CLNE have gone up and down in value in recent years, thanks to the fluctuations in the price of natural gas and changes in the oil industry worldwide. And a Pelosi spokesman told The Washington Examiner last year that her husband takes care of their stock portfolio, so she has no knowledge of how any of her family investments will be affected by any particular piece of legislation before Congress.

Another prominent public figure with an interest in OWM is CLNE’s major domo, T. Boone Pickens, best known of late as a wind-energy investor and the man behind the largest-ever single donation to a state university, $165 million to Oklahoma State University for its athletic programs three years ago. CLNE is a cog in Pickens massive plan to create a giant wind farm in West Texas to generate electricity.

Pelosi will profit because OWM will boost the price of natural gas on the market. This is because natural gas burns with significantly less carbon emissions than other fossil fuels. For companies trying to get under OWM limits for greenhouse gases emissions, burning more natural gas instead of, say coal, will be a no-brainer. That will drive up demand for natural gas, which in turn will create upward price pressures.

So my next question for Pelosi, Gore, Pickens, GE, and all other entities that have banked on “Green” legislation; will money be made off of taxing cow farts?

Yes, folks, there was an idea floating around out there to tax methane and cow farts.  All living beings happen to pass gas, so I would assume that they would first come for the cows, and then for us… There are those that are getting into the business of breeding cows that pass less flatulence, believe it or not.  Would green cows make green burgers and would green burgers make my flatulence green?  Yeah, didn’t think so…

The government is becoming Godzilla, toppling tall buildings and destroying everything it touches.  I guess you could consider the government much like the opposite of Midas… everything it touches turns to…

Reagan was right when you said: ”If it moves tax it, if it keeps moving, regulate it.  And if it stops moving subsidize it.”

Late last Tuesday night the House Democrats made a deal on cap and tax (cap and trade) so the more  conservative Democrats felt better about the bill and would ensure their vote for the legislation.  The deal involved many of the Democrats from the mid-west and farm country where agriculture was a major concern for these representatives. 

The House is prepared to vote on the bill to push it through the Senate by this Friday.  Nancy Pelosi believes that given 2 days’ time she will have enough votes for a majority. 

This bill is incredibly harmful, hurtful, expensive, and it quite frankly is one of the nastiest pieces of legislation I have seen in a long time.  Liberals continuously use the straw-man argument that Republicans try to fear monger others into voting a certain way or believing certain things… I could say the exact same thing for GloBull warming, which is the biggest hoax of this century.  In fact, when people finally wake up and figure out that the politicians are all in bed with “Green” companies, holding significant amounts of equity, and wanting legislation like this passed, not because it’s based on a true premise, but because it will line their pockets – then maybe common sense can reign supreme.

This cap and tax bill will have very little effect on the poorest – because they don’t pay taxes to begin with.  They are leeches on productive society.  The top quintile of the country, or the richest, will be burdened with this particular tax, but not as much as their federal income taxes.   No, cap and tax will fall squarely on the middle class.  Whether you are lower-middle class, middle, or upper, you will feel this significantly. 

If you look at only the bottom quintile, C&T is more progressive than anything else in the federal tax system. But it’s downhill from there: The share of cap and trade paid by the middle quintile is three times the federal tax system’s average, and the share paid by the richest quintile is half that of the average.

I don’t really have a strong normative point to make here. Progressivity is in the eye of the beholder and all that. Nonetheless, I hope this puts some of the debate over the burdens of cap and trade in context.

If you are the least bit curious you can actually calculate the cap and tax burden on your household/family. 

I have written several times regarding Cap and Tax – whether it was posting a video clip of Democrat Rep. Dick Durbin stating that all this legislation is one big tax, or Henry Waxman’s incompetency.  I have written about our economy and how this will completely destroy sectors, increase the cost of living, increase our gas and energy prices, decrease our standard of living, and repress those who work hard to make a living.

Most of America disagrees with Cap and Trade, and congress was trying to come up with ways in wich they could cover up the bill and pass it off as some other cleverly deceptive rubbish:

The latest IBD/TIPP poll shows that cap and trade is a no go in the public eye.  More people are beginning to understand what it actually entails/means.  Indiana has also found a way around cap and trade this past week.

However, the Obama administration seems as though it may want to advance this agenda, but just under a different name.

How does the “The Clean Energy Divide” sound to you?

The Obama administration is exploring alternative names for cap and trade legislation.

People don’t really know what cap and trade means, but they don’t like it. So a new name is being concocted to gather support for the legislation.

It doesn’t look like the names “carbon tax” or “regressive tax” are in the mix, though. How does “clean energy divide” grab you?

WSJ: Seeking to bolster public support for climate legislation, the Obama administration is consulting pollsters who advocate avoiding phrases such as “cap-and-trade” and “global warming.” On Monday, the White House Council on Environmental Quality was scheduled to meet with Robert Perkowitz, president of ecoAmerica, a Washington-based nonprofit that uses “psychographic research” to “shift personal and civic choices of environmentally agnostic Americans,” according to its Web site.

“We’re trying to give them phrases that work,” Mr. Perkowitz said in an interview. He said that in a survey of some 2,000 Americans conducted by his group in March and April, less than half of the respondents said they would support a “cap-and-trade” policy, and that only 24% said they knew what the phrase means. “If you call it ‘clean energy dividend’…almost anything other than ‘cap and trade,’ you’ll get people responding a lot more favorably,” he said.

Isn’t that nice?  let’s trick the American people so we can still strap the poor and the middle class with tax hikes to obtain our faulty liberal green agenda so Al Gore can receive a bunch of profits as well as GE, Google and Microsoft…

Not only will we have to ration Obamacare we will be back to rationing gas and unemployment will not only reach 10%, as Obama predicts, but higher – you cannot destroy the mining/coal industry and expect your unemployment rate to stay the same.  Coal is one of the most abundant natural resources that America has… it is one thing that keeps us competitive abroad – and with this legislation you can kiss that goodbye.  Is it really so “tin-foil” hat to think that the Democrats are in bed with foreign countries, selling out America for a little extra cash?  (I’m sure we will also figure out who some of the Republican Reps./Senators are after the vote as well). 

There still exist some principled Congress-critters and politicians, but they are few and far between.  Michele Bachmann has been on the forefront of this debate, Jim DeMint is pretty outspoken when it comes to fiscal irresponsibility and unconstitutional legislation… but, other than that, it’s hard to make a case for most who waffle on their principles – so much so they may as well say “Leggo” my values.

The only way we can at least attempt to curtail the passage of this bill Friday is through melting the phones.  Many of our represenatives won’t listen to our pleas or our common sense logic – believe me, my Senator and Represenative are Progressives!  (Sarbanes & Cardin), but it’s still imperatiave that we at least try.

Cash for clunkers sounds like a great idea.  It seems so simplistic:  I get money for turning in my old car.  However, there is much more to this than meets the eye.

Cash for clunkers is another brilliant liberal idea, and by brilliant, I mean brain dead.

Liberals say that if you trade in your old used car, you will receive $4.5K for a new one.  It can’t be the basic if it comes out of D.C., so why isn’t the media challenging this piece of legislation?  We all know the answer to that one…ask ABC.

There are numerous downsides to this bill:

- If dealers anticipate a rebate for a trade in, they will only increase their base price for the car to make up for it.

-People drive old cars because they cannot afford new ones so how will $4.5K actually help?  The down payments that many banks are asking for are much higher due to risk and tighter lending practices.  The monthly payments are also tough to meet if you are of low income status.  I just bought a new Mini Cooper and have a great credit/beacon score… but because I couldn’t put down $15K on the spot, I couldn’t get a bank loan.  I had to settle for the higher rate at the BMW dealership.

-This will also increase the cost of used cars.  If more people are trying to purchase new cars, then used car dealerships will suffer and will be forced to raise their prices to make a profit, rather than make a profit from volume of sales.  In essence, this will hurt the lower middle class and the poor – the very people he professes to help.

-Charities will be negatively affected by this law.  There are over 350K charities that are used car donors.  These charities will see a direct decrease in donations if people believe they are getting a kick-back.  These charities will have to cut staff and operations, causing more unemployment and fewer used cars for those who really need them.

-The proposed cost of this law would be $4B.  This is another “government pays” bill.  Therefore, one would think that maybe this is another bill that is circular… The Government will tax you to help pay for your car… why not just pay for it yourself then?  All estimates that come out of the government are conservative at best; therefore, you can and should always take on another 50% to the original value.

-Other industries may suffer if there are consumer shifts.  Priorities of consumers will shift based on whether they think they are getting a better deal.  If cars go up something else will inevitably go down.

-The fact that the Democrats are global warming alarmists happens to be another excuse they will use.  They will exclaim that used cars cause more pollution… I don’t believe that in the slightest, so I won’t even touch on it.  There is still plenty we do not know about hybrids and whether or not they truly are as effective as people would like to believe.  I also do not believe in the hoax or the hype – ’nuff said.  Personally, my Mini Cooper’s gas mileage goes up as it gets older…just sayin’

-This is another pay-to-play scheme to pay off the $400M campaign donations given to Democrats and Obama by the UAW.  If old cars are scrapped, new cars will have to be manufactured and purchased and more money into the pockets of the UAW.

This type of legislation has been tried before, in another country no less:

Germany has used a similar program for a few months, and of course it has actually cost at least three times more than government “estimates.” More than this, studies of the German experience have shown it has largely led to a mere shift of spending priorities. Consumer electronics sales fell in ratio to automobile spending meaning there has been no net gain for Germany’s economy.

It is so interesting and disturbing how Obama and the Democrats have gone after charities and small business.  Charities have been attacked on both the stimulus front, the taxable deductions front, and now this idea for clunkers.  A study showed that conservatives give more to charity than any other ideological group, because they do so through their churches.  These churches are involved in many charities across the nation and it’s quite disheartening to see the Liberals be so antipathetic towards religious movements.

Obama and the Democrats are hell-bent on making people so dependent on the government, and only the government, that they will soon need to get their diapers changed by them too.  This is insanity!
