Obama’s Latest Gaffe (France Is Not Amused)

Obama recently pledged his friendship to France by sending a letter that said the following:

“I am certain that we will be able to work together, in the coming four years, in a spirit of peace and friendship to build a safer world.”

The issue is not what was in the letter or Obama reaching out to France, but the fact that Obama sent that letter to former President Chirac, not to the current President, Sarkozy.

Many believe this gaffe was actually intentionaldue to Sarkozy’s pro- War on Terror stances when compared to Chirac’s.

Nicolas Sarkozy is both offended and unamused.  He has been trying to get a sit-down with President Obama for months, to no avail, and now this obvious snub.

Whether this was intentional or just a simple gaffe - it proves that Obama is either incompetent, rude or both.  Ironically enough, Obama accused President Bush of burning bridges with allies and causing a lot of anti-American sentiment.  It would appear that Obama is doing a very good job of that in just a couple months.

Obama on Face the Nation, 60 Minutes

Some interesting points to note from Obama’s interview with Kroft on Face the Nation.

Obama seems to be laughing and chuckling when discussing the economic crisis the country is currently facing.  Kroft pressed Obama on his demeanor and it shows that Obama may in fact be extremely detached from the feelings and emotions that most average Americans are experiencing during these tumultuous times.

Obama is also struggling to disown and disassociate himself with Geithner. He still held to the fact that Geithner is competent, qualified and will be able to handle this financial meltdown. Some say that Obama not distancing himself from his Treasury Secretary is hurting Obama and losing him some major political points. I personally feel that it is only a matter of time before Geithner is tossed under Obama’s infamous bus.

Obama Disparages The Special Olympics On Leno Among Other Things

From Political Punch

The first appearance by a sitting president on “The Tonight Show” may well end up being the last.

President Obama, in his taping with Jay Leno Thursday afternoon, attempted to yuk it up with the funnyman, and ended up insulting the disabled.

Towards the end of his approximately 40-minute appearance, the president talked about how he’s gotten better at bowling and has been practicing in the White House bowling alley.

He bowled a 129, the president said.

“That’s very good, Mr. President,” Leno said sarcastically.

It’s “like the Special Olympics or something,” the president said.

When asked about the remark, the White House said the president did not intend to offend.

“The president made an off-hand remark making fun of his own bowling that was in no way intended to disparage the Special Olympics,” White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said. “He thinks the Special Olympics is a wonderful program that gives an opportunity for people with disabilities from around the world.”

Could you imagine what they would have done if Bush had made a comment or attempted a joke such as this?  The liberals would put on their usual act, feigning indignation and outrage.  My main issue with this statement is the utter hypocrisy that is demonstrated by the liberals on a daily basis.  I do not hold myself up to the standard of being part of the “tolerant” party or being Pro PC, however, liberals do – so where is the outcry… crickets… as usual!  And to make matters worse, look how out-of-the-closet Keith Olberman is on trying to protect “The One” and cover for his guy.

Why Bother With a Constitution? Welcome to the USSA

Breaking News from the House:

WASHINGTON (AP) – Acting with lightning speed, the Democratic-led House has approved a bill to slap punishing taxes on big employee bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers.
The vote was 328-93.

Said House Speaker Nancy Pelosi: “We want our money back and we want our money back now for the taxpayers.”

Well you know what Piglosi? I would like for you to pay me back… seeing as how you are un-American, you should move to another country, pay back the taxpayer money you use to fly from D.C. to San Fran non-stop and I would like to tax you for the global warming coming from your mouth given all the hot air.

Republicans called it a legally questionable ploy to paper over Obama administration missteps.

Ya Think?

Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, said the bill was “a political circus” diverting attention from why the administration hadn’t done more to block the bonuses before they were paid.

Spot on… It’s as if the Democrats are saying “Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.”  Welcome to the Wizard of Oz.

The bonuses, totaling $165 million, were paid to employees of troubled insurer American International Group, including to traders in the unit that nearly brought about the company’s collapse.

Earlier Story for the Bill just passed in the House:

WASHINGTON (AP)—Democrats pressed for quick action Thursday on a bill to slap punishing taxes on big employee bonuses from firms bailed out by taxpayers. Republicans called it a legally questionable ploy to paper over Obama administration missteps.

Always the democrats pushing for these bills, while they had everything to do with this crisis.  I’m getting so heated I can’t even see straight or keep my fingers on the keyboard!

“The American people demand protection and that’s what we’re doing today,” said Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., chairman of the tax-writing House Ways and Means Committee.

This coming from the guy that is indicted for financial scandals and does not feel the need to pay taxes.

Democratic leaders rushed the bill to the floor under a procedure that requires a two-thirds majority for passage. The numerous Republican complaints about the measure during Thursday’s debate raised questions on whether it would pass.

“The Democratic bill brought to the floor today is constitutionally questionable,” said Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind. “It’s obviously a transparent attempt to divert attention away from the truth that Democrats in Congress and this administration made these bonus payments possible.”

Good for you Mike Pence – keep speaking the truth and don’t back down!

The bill would levy a 90 percent tax on bonuses paid to employees with family incomes above $250,000 at companies that have received at least $5 billion in government bailout money.

Great – how unconstitutional is all of this?  These are private contracts that were in place beforehand.  They are now retroactively trying to go back and correct their mistake since they gave permission to AIG for these retention bonuses via the stimulus bill.  Welcome to Socialism America – if the government can do this to one company don’t think they cannot do this to yours – this is what is meant by setting a precedent.

“We figured that the local and state governments would take care of the other 10 percent,” said Rangel.

How nice of the corruptocrat – he seems like a very empathetic and sensitive guy.

Rangel said the bill would apply to mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, among others, while excluding community banks and other smaller companies that have received less bailout money.

Fannie and Freddie better be getting the same stipulation from this bill if they are putting it on one company.  Any entities that received bailout funds should also apply to this.

A tax expert said there is plenty of precedent for levying punitive taxes on behavior that lawmakers find objectionable. Robert Willens, a corporate tax lawyer in New York, cited the steep excise taxes levied on money paid to firms to keep them from launching hostile takeover bids, known as “greenmail.”

“You can write very narrowly tailored laws,” Willens said. “And they can do it for bonuses already paid.”

House Democratic leaders unveiled the bill Wednesday as the head of embattled American International Group Inc., which has received $182 billion in bailout money, testified about $165 million in bonuses paid out in the past week to about 400 employees in its Financial Products unit.

Edward Liddy, who was brought in last year by the government to run AIG, told a House subcommittee that the company was contractually obligated to pay the bonuses but that some of the recipients have begun returning all or part of them.

Liddy said that on Tuesday, he had “asked those who have received retention payments in excess of $100,000 or more to return at least half of those payments.” Some have “already stepped forward and returned 100 percent,” he added.

In the Senate, the top two members of the Finance Committee on Tuesday announced a bill that would impose a 35 percent excise tax on the companies paying the bonuses and a 35 percent excise tax on the employees receiving them. The taxes would apply to all companies receiving government bailout money, but they are clearly geared toward AIG.

President Barack Obama, who took office just under two months ago, told reporters Wednesday that his administration was not responsible for a lack of federal supervision of AIG that preceded the company’s demise.

But Obama added, “The buck stops with me.”

Welecome to the United Socialist States of America (USSA)…

Is it Legal? Book Deal for a Sitting Pres?

Obama signed a contract for a $500,000 advance for a children’s book project.  During these times of economic turmoil, Obama, the now sitting president, deems it necessary to take a large sum of money for a new book idea.  This amount of money would be added to the amount he will be making from the taxpayers on an annual basis.  $500,000 could surely go a long way to help pay off some things or could be given back to some charitable organizations if he really was that philanthropic – he certainly should not need the money all that badly.  One would think that he would want to help out the less fortunate, the lower and middle class constituents that he fought, ever so hard, for during the election.

The question, though, is whether or not this book advance and a commercial contract payment such as this is legal while you are a sitting president.  This would be another line of firsts in the office of the president since he took office.  Firsts do not always signify “good” – there are plenty of bad firsts in the history books as well.

The terms of the book deal were disclosed in a Senate financial disclosure report filed Tuesday.

Analysts say there don’t appear to be any rules that would bar such transactions after a president takes office, but it’s unclear whether an incoming or sitting president has ever signed a book deal upon entering the White House.

“I don’t recall any sitting president entering into a book deal,” said campaign finance lawyer Jan Baran, former general counsel to the Republican National Committee. “They all have historically done that after they leave office.

Barack Obama is already receiving $2.5M in royalties from his first two books, “The Audacity of Hope” and “Dreams From My Father.”

Just as in 2007, public interest in Barack Obama the presidential candidate helped Barack Obama the author earn lots of money from book royalties, according to his latest financial disclosure report.

Last year, Mr. Obama reported earning $949,910 in royalties from “Dreams From My Father” and $1.5 million from “The Audacity of Hope.” In 2007, he reported $3.2 million in book royalties from Random House.

Mr. Obama’s books have helped boost the Obamas’ income considerably in recent years, from about $1 million in 2006 to more than $4 million in 2007.

I guess Obama should call himself one of those rich capitalistic fat-cats?  He is using our capitalist society to write books and sell them and receiving money and royalties in return – maybe we should tell him that the government, under his policies, would own the book deals and would collect his gains.
