House Panel Votes Against E-Verify Amendments in Stimulus Bill
E-Verify is an employment eligibility verification system which helps companies certify that their employees are able to work in the United States legally. There was a lot of concern that, when passed, the Stimulus Bill which should create jobs and opportunities for Americans, would do the exact opposite. Not only will the Stimulus Bill increase our deficit but it’s focus is on paying off donors, creating jobs for specific Democrat constituents, and giving employment opportunities to illegal aliens. The Republicans saw all of this coming and the one thing they could curtail was the illegal alien loop-hole by amending the bill so that it would contain a stipulation requiring that the jobs created by the stimulus must go through the E-Verify certification system. Representatives Kingston and Calvert were on the forefront of this matter:
One of Rep. Kingston’s amendments would have required all federal contractors to verify all employees and new hires through the E-Verify system. The amendment would have countered a new executive order that the Administration is expected to announce today that weakens the 2008 executive order requiring all government contractors to use E-Verify. The amendment failed by a 23-to-35 vote.
Rep. Kingston’s second amendment would have required all employees, contractors, and subcontractors of the Legislative Branch to use E-Verify. That amendment failed by a voice vote.
Rep. Calvart’s amendment would have permanently reauthorized E-Verify, but it received resistance from, most notably, Rep. David Price who argued that E-Verify will be addressed during a larger immigration reform debate. The amendment failed 21-to-36.
American jobs are already being lost to illegal immigrants and health care costs are rising due to taxpaying Americans footing the bill for those who don’t contribute. America’s unemployment rate is creeping close to 10%. American citizens are out of work, but without E-verify some of these jobs will be given to people who aren’t even on the books in the United States. How does that help our economy and how does that lower our unemployment rate? I’m sure at this point many Americans would gladly take a job if they are out of work, no matter what that job is.
The jobs created by the stimulus will effectively be canceled out by the jobs given away to illegal aliens or a possible amnesty bill, if it passes this Fall.
Larry Summers, Obama’s economic advisor, exclaims that the only reason the government is taking control of private industry is due out of necessity. This is the same crisis creating, fear-mongering that liberals railed against when Bush used it during the War on Terror - why are they so complacent now?
Lawrence Summers defended Obama’s economic actions, saying they have been “particularly consistent and firm since the crisis began while he was campaigning for president.”
Even as Capitol Hill Republicans are railing against the administration’s interventions into the auto industry, Wall Street and healthcare, Summers said “the actions we take are those of necessity, not choice.”
Mark Sanford was right when he called out Obama, stating he was creating a “Savior-based economy.” Anything “savior-based” will fail, especially when their messiah has never taken an economics course.
Obama to Make “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” a Priority This Year
The official unemployment rate for March hovered around 8.5%!
-663,000 U.S. jobs were eliminated.
-There are now 13.2 million Americans looking for a job who can’t find even a part-time job.
-Yet, many of the nation’s richest foundations, most prestigious newspapers and top elected officials continue to call for an increase in foreign workers.
Numbersusa uses calculations based on the most recent government data estimate that the feds gave out. 138,000 permanent work permits (green cards for immigrants) and new temporary work permits (for temporary workers) to foreigners were given out during the month of March. That makes around 400,000 foreign workers during this new year of the new Administration and new Congress, which are acting just like the last Administration in callousness. You would think we had a jobs surplus and a worker shortage in this country with the way the feds behave.
Unemployment rate estimates are expected to increase from 8.5% and the “stimulus job creation” touted by the democrats from their pay-to-play recovery act will be canceled out (if there even was a real job stimulus from it in the first place) due to massive immigration reform such as what Obama is proposing.
Numberusa also has a great article about the stimulus and what it really means, if anything at all with the number of illegals coming in and becoming workers and if amnesty occurs what they will do to the job rate in the United States during a recession as well as the fact that the United States is no longer a producing country – we don’t have tons of jobs to give away – our country is now a service provider!
Here is what the Obama Administration would like to do this year (yet another priority)- they aren’t letting a good crisis go to waste:
While acknowledging that the recession makes the political battle more difficult, President Barack Obama plans to begin addressing America’s immigration system this year, including looking for a path for illegal immigrants to become legal, a senior administration official said Wednesday.
Obama will frame the new effort — likely to rouse passions on all sides of the highly divisive issue — as “policy reform that controls immigration and makes it an orderly system,” said the official, Cecilia Munoz, deputy assistant to the president and director of intergovernmental affairs in the White House.
Obama plans to speak publicly about the issue in May, administration officials said, and over the summer he will convene working groups, including lawmakers from both parties and a range of immigration organizations, to begin discussing possible legislation for as early as this fall.
Some White House officials said immigration would not take precedence over the health care and energy proposals that Obama has identified as priorities. But the timetable is consistent with pledges that Obama made to Latino groups in last year’s campaign.
He said then that comprehensive immigration legislation, including a plan to make legal status possible for an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants, would be a priority in his first year in office. Latino voters turned out strongly for Obama in the election.
Yet another shining example of how the Democrats and the Obama Administration do not believe in punishment or discipline when it comes to those who have broken the law or made bad decisions…
But with the economy seriously ailing, advocates on different sides of the debate said immigration could become a polarizing issue for Obama in a year when he has many other major battles to fight.
The White House is calculating that public support for fixing the immigration system, which is widely acknowledged to be broken, will outweigh opposition from voters who argue that immigrants take jobs from Americans. A groundswell among voters opposed to legal status for illegal immigrants led to the defeat in 2007 of a bipartisan immigration bill that was strongly supported by President George W. Bush.
Administration officials said Obama’s plan would not add new workers to the American work force, but that it would recognize millions of illegal immigrants who have already been working in the United States.
I know a lot of moderate Democrats who are also against the idea of “comprehensive immigration reform.” Just like the Freedom of Choice Act or Card Check – they have nice little names that mislead you into thinking that they are good policies. This, however, is just a cover up for allowing illegals to get rights and citizenship without suffering the consequences (like being arrested or deported) for entering a country illegally and working here without paying income taxes etc.
Opponents of legalization legislation were incredulous at the idea that Obama would take on immigration when economic pain for Americans is so widespread.
Obama could care less about people – he cares about himself, his ideology and his policies – he only wants to pass an agenda no matter who is hurts or destroys along the way – like American workers and American jobs.
This is just another power grab so liberals can have a majority for years to come. This, along with the census, health-care and education will tie down generations of Americans to the government and make them dependent on a power-hungry Washington, D.C.
John McAmnesty Changing His Tune?
John McCain recently had a meeting with the Hispanic Business Leaders and his infamous temper seemed to have gotten the best of him. McCain, it has been said, has been known to hold a grudge or two and it would appear that this grudge is pointed in the right direction.
John McCain sounds angry and frustrated that, despite the risks he took in pushing immigration reform, Hispanic voters flocked to Democrat Barack Obama in last year’s presidential contest. McCain’s raw emotions burst forth recently as he heatedly told Hispanic business leaders that they should now look to Obama, not him, to take the lead on immigration…
“He was angry,” one source said. “He was over the top. In some cases, he rolled his eyes a lot. There were portions of the meeting where he was just staring at the ceiling, and he wasn’t even listening to us. We came out of the meeting really upset.”
McCain’s message was obvious, the source continued: Aftertwo bucking his party on immigration, he had no sympathy for Hispanics who are dissatisfied with President Obama’s pace on the issue. “He threw out [the words] ‘You people — you people made your choice. You made your choice during the election,’ ” the source said. “It was almost as if [he was saying] ‘You’re cut off!’ We felt very uncomfortable when we walked away from the meeting because of that.”
Sources said that McCain upset a couple of individuals attending the meeting, but his press release denies that his temper or demeanor was as bad as it is being made out to be.
I say either way, maybe McCain will come to his senses and realize that the idea of amnesty is detrimental to our society and our economy and that it’s not such a bad thing to be more conservative! Let Obama and the Democrats lay in the bed they make.
Update: Obama’s Aunt Granted One More Year in U.S.; Obama Family Matters (Brother and Aunt)
UPDATE:
President Barack Obama’s aunt will be allowed to remain in the United States until at least next year as she awaits a chance to make her case before an immigration judge in her bid for asylum from her native Kenya. A judge on Wednesday scheduled a hearing for Feb. 4, 2010 date to hear Zeituni Onyango’s (zay-TUH’-nee awn-YAHN’-goh) case.
As written in the original post – she has been tried before – she has been living here illegally for years – kick her out – make her come in the right way. She shouldn’t receive special treatment just because she is related to the President. This is ridiculous!
ORIGINAL:
Obama’s family is having some issues of their own. Everyone needs to make a big deal about other politicians’ family members so why don’t we scrutinize the drama that is Obama’s?
Obama’s Auntie Zeituni is facing another deportation hearing on April 1st – Another April Fool’s gift from Obama (like our tax cuts). Aunt Zeituni Onyango is an illegal immigrant from Kenya who has been living in the Boston projects for over 8 years, when she immigrated from Kenya to the United States in 2000. Auntie Zeituni has also been cited and discussed in Obama’s book, “Dreams from my Father.”
In 2003 a judge ordered her to leave the country and Zeituni Onyango lost on appeal. She tried to argue her case again, but another immigration judge confirmed the original sentence and ordered her deported in 2004.
So why is she still here? This should all give us some insight into Obama’s true plans for immigration. He is for open borders…
Obama’s half-brother, Malik Obama, a 51-yr. old businessman, has fallen ill. Malik was complaining of stomach pains and doctors think it may be cholera. Malik’s condition has been improving since he was first hospitalized and should hopefully be released either today or tomorrow.
I have no idea if this is the same half-brother that was living on $1/day in a hut since Obama has 5 half-brothers and 1 half-sister…
The question is whether or not Obama will give him any money, visit, call? Who knows – After all the protesting of the democrats and Obama for being part of the charitable party – it never ceases to amaze me that Obama only gave 1% of his entire income to charity and nothing to his half-brother living in a hut in Kenya.
My other curiosity will be in regards to the nation of Kenya and what support they will be given. They have rampant outbreaks of cholera and other infectious diseases – the leader who gave the most ever to Africa was…you guessed it…
BUSH!
Janet Napolitano Delays Immigration Raids
As would be expected from the Obama administration – there is an attack on legal workers and businesses and not the individuals and illegal immigrants coming across the border.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has delayed a series of proposed immigration raids and other enforcement actions at U.S. workplaces in recent weeks, asking agents in her department to apply more scrutiny to the selection and investigation of targets as well as the timing of raids, federal officials said.
A senior department official said the delays signal a pending change in whom agents at U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement choose to prosecute — increasing the focus on businesses and executives instead of ordinary workers.
“ICE is now scrutinizing these cases more thoroughly to ensure that [targets] are being taken down when they should be taken down, and that the employer is being targeted and the surveillance and the investigation is being done how it should be done,” said the official, discussing Napolitano’s views about sensitive law enforcement matters on the condition of anonymity.
“There will be a change in policy, but in the interim, you’ve got to scrutinize the cases coming up,” the senior DHS official said, noting Napolitano’s expectations as a former federal prosecutor and state attorney general.
Another DHS official said Napolitano plans to release protocols this week to ensure more consistent work-site investigations and less “haphazard” decision-making.
