Obama: “Iran Has a Right to Be Nuclear”
Well, there you have it folks – it’s settled. Not only is Obama expected to give a speech where he said he will reach out to the Muslim world, Thursday, in Cairo, Egypt, but he is also stating that Iran may have a right to nuclear power.
President Barack Obama suggested that Iran may have some right to nuclear energy _ provided it proves by the end of the year that its aspirations are peaceful.
In a BBC interview broadcast Tuesday, he also restated plans to pursue direct diplomacy with Tehran to encourage it set aside any ambitions for nuclear weapons it might harbor.
Iran has insisted its nuclear program is aimed at generating electricity. But the U.S. and other Western governments accuse Tehran of seeking atomic weapons.
“What I do believe is that Iran has legitimate energy concerns, legitimate aspirations,” Obama said, adding that the international community also “has a very real interest” in preventing a nuclear arms race.
The president has indicated a willingness to seek deeper international sanctions against Tehran if it does not respond positively to U.S. attempts to open negotiations on its nuclear program. Obama has said Tehran has until the end of the year to show it wants to engage with Washington.
“Although I don’t want to put artificial time tables on that process, we do want to make sure that, by the end of this year, we’ve actually seen a serious process move forward. And I think that we can measure whether or not the Iranians are serious,” Obama said.
Iran is now a friend and ally!?, never-mind Ahmadinejad’s incendiary remarks during the UN race summit or his previous statements about the West and Israel, they do mean well and really only want nukes for energy purposes. A third world country always wants to go right to nuclear energy not start with the basics./sarc!
President pantywaist sure is giving us change – sometimes I’m not sure if he is doing this on purpose or not but it sure is starting to look suspicious. I’m sure Obama’s scary, hollow rhetoric will really make those Iranian leaders shake in their boots!
I also noted above that Obama is reaching out to the Muslim world. I have to question why his administration continues to reach out to Muslims and not the Arab world. The Arab world is much greater and encompasses the entire region, whereas Muslims do make up a majority, they are not the only citizens living there. Israeli’s are still considered Arab and there are other individuals who do not technically classify themselves as Muslim. Please pay attention to his words. Obama stated that he does not want any further settlement in Israel and Netanyahu has fervently disagreed with such remarks and requests, while Obama tries to make amends (which I think are completely unnecessary for what the Muslim world has done not only to Israel, but to us, to Europe, etc.) with those trying to destroy the West.
So long to our one and only ally in the Middle East, Israel. I’m sure Netanyahu is taking notes as well as umbrage at Obama’s words and actions. He knows that the U.S. is no longer supporting Israel the way we used to. At some point this probably has to happen, but not when you have all these rogue countries acting up, one of which is Israel’s prime enemy, who has called for the extinction of Jews on multiple occasions.
A couple of other random notes/thoughts:
Iran can have “nuclear power” (so says Obama) but the United States when it comes to energy policy, cannot…
Iran needs nuclear power when it already sits on tons of oil?
Liberals are congenitally incapable of comprehending the fact that there are some people on this Earth who are unreasonable and with whom you cannot negotiate and reasonably expect to achieve anything but your own defeat. Barack Obama is the leader of this chronically naive cadre. He is incapable of comprehending the truth about people like Kim Jong Il and Ahmadinejad.
Liberals, or at least Democrats, will hopefully, one day face the fact that not everyone on this earth is good and decent. Human nature can be very dark at times – but it is only through that darkness that anybody truly knows light. It’s important and imperative to separate the two.
Hawaii Backs the Creation of Islam Day…
Hawaii’s state Senate overwhelmingly approved a bill Wednesday to celebrate “Islam Day” — over the objections of a few lawmakers who said they didn’t want to honor a religion connected to Sept. 11, 2001.
The Senate’s two Republicans argued that a minority of Islamic extremists have killed many innocents in terrorist attacks.
“I recall radical Islamists around the world cheering the horrors of 9/11. That is the day all civilized people of all religions should remember,” said Republican Sen. Fred Hemmings to the applause of more than 100 people gathered in the Senate to oppose a separate issue — same-sex civil unions.
The resolution to proclaim Sept. 24, 2009, as Islam Day passed the Senate on a 22-3 vote. It had previously passed the House and now goes to Republican Gov. Linda Lingle.
The bill seeks to recognize “the rich religious, scientific, cultural and artistic contributions” that Islam and the Islamic world have made. It does not call for any spending or organized celebration of Islam Day.
But Republican Sen. Sam Slom argued that the United States has become too sympathetic toward Islamic extremists.
I wonder if Linda Lingle will sign this into law… ugh… probably.
The day of Sept. 24, 2009 is a little too close to 9/11 for me. I’m a little uncomfortable recognizing “Islam Day” because many in the Middle East (if you have seen their propaganda or listened to their speeches translated) are still calling for the destruction of the great Evil, the West, and most notably the United States and the extermination of Israel… but we should recognize Islam Day in September. Why don’t we have a Christian Day or a Catholic Day? Why don’t the atheists protest Islam? It is a religion!
I’m sure Pamela Geller has several opinions on this… www.atlasshrugs.com
U.S. to Release Chinese Terrorists Into the Country!?
The Obama administration is preparing to admit into the United States as many as seven Chinese Muslims who have been imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay in the first release of any of the detainees into this country, according to current and former U.S. officials.
I have put classifieds into all the local papers: Wanted: Caring Families Needed to House Unfortunate Terrorists From Gitmo: 1-800-I-VOTED-4-OBAMA
Their release is seen as a crucial step to plans, announced by President Obama during his first week in office, to close the prison and relocate the detainees. Administration officials also believe that settling some of them in American communities will set an example, helping to persuade other nations to accept Guantanamo detainees too.
Any detainees released into the country will most likely vote Democrat in the next elections, especially after receiving welfare payments from taxpayers. I’m sure they will pose no threat to the country since there was probably no reason whatsoever they were detained at Gitmo in the first place/sarc.
But the decision to release the Chinese Muslims, known as Uighurs, is not final and faces challenges from within the government, as well as likely public opposition. Among government agencies, the Homeland Security Department has registered concerns about the plan.
The move would also incense Chinese officials, who consider the Uighurs domestic terrorists and want those held at Guantanamo handed over for investigation. U.S. officials no longer consider the Chinese Muslims to be enemy combatants and fear they would be mistreated in China.
The Chinese will not let them back into the country and if they do re-enter they will prosecute the Uighurs as domestic terrorists, but the United States doesn’t get the hint and is admitting them into the country.
There are 17 Uighurs (pronounced WEE-gers) at Guantanamo. A U.S. official familiar with the discussions over their release said that as many as seven could be resettled in the U.S., possibly in two or more small groups.
Officials have not said where in the United States they might live. But many Uighur immigrants from China live in Washington’s Virginia suburbs, and advocates have urged that the detainees be resettled near people who speak their language and are familiar with their customs.
I hope all my under 30 friends who voted for Obama are amenable to the fact that they could be their next-door neighbors in Northern Virginia. The suburbs of Northern Virginia went blue and many in the area are having second thoughts about their vote. I say too bad – you reap what you sow.
The Uighurs were sent to Guantanamo in 2002 after being captured in Pakistan. Before that, they had gravitated to Afghanistan, where they received firearms training at a camp apparently run by a Uighur separatist.
Some former U.S. officials have said government information indicates that the Uighurs may pose a danger if released. But other officials and human rights organizations insist they pose no threat to Americans.
These men were trained and caught in camps that promote jihad. These men are not threats to our society and the citizens of America? Human Rights groups or U.S. Intel officials – which one would you be willing to listen to and believe when discussing the possible threats posed.
“It is kind of hard to tell other countries you would like them to accept some of these guys from Guantanamo if you are not willing to accept them,” said the U.S. official, who described the internal discussions on condition of anonymity.
So through the act of appeasement we need to set an example to change the minds of other countries. It’s like the old saying: “If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you?” The whole idea of making a decision that could possibly put the citizens of the United States at risk, due to the fact that there is more concern over the lives of terrorists than the lives of U.S. citizens, just reeks of idiocy and insanity! Why would any country accept terrorists just because the U.S. does. Is that not a little arrogant and presumptuous on our part? If I were any other country I would look at the U.S. and say, “Good for you… but I’m not taking that chance and putting the lives of my countrymen at stake.”
The acceptance of these terrorists are also hurting foreign relations with China. Appeasement does more harm for relations than anything else. The more you try to please everyone, the more you upset and hurt everyone. Evidence of this is as simple as looking at your own personal life. Did you ever try to please all your friends when you were younger? I was in a group of friends and one of my girlfriends was an appeaser. She would say one thing to one person and promise the opposite to another. When word got back that she was two faced and pinning others against one another, she was the one who got in trouble, not the group. If you don’t stand for anything you will fall for everything.
The release is a slap in the face to Beijing, which has requested that the Uighur prisoners be repatriated to China to stand trial for separatist activities. In their testimony before the Guantanamo tribunal, the Uighurs admitted that their purpose in going to Afghanistan was to receive military training to fight Chinese rule over Xinjiang.
“If these people are terrorists, they should be punished. If they are not terrorists, the United States should apologize to China for holding them so long and make compensation,” said Zhang Jiadong, an expert in terrorism at Fudan University’s Center for American Studies. Zhang said, however, that he did not expect the Chinese government to retaliate because it was already widely anticipated in Beijing that the United States would not return the Uighurs to China.
Within the prison, Uighurs are not considered a grave threat and are allowed greater freedom, such as television privileges, than other detainees.
But the TV privileges underscored potential difficulties to come, according to one current and one former U.S. official. Not long after being granted access to TV, some of the Uighurs were watching a soccer game. When a woman with bare arms was shown on the screen, one of the group grabbed the television and threw it to the ground, according to the officials.
They aren’t a grave threat, but when they see a woman with bare arms they throw a television screen – I’m sure that will go over real well in Northern Virginia. “Beware of Tank Tops!”
The Uighurs are not as dangerous as other detainees or terrorist groups, but they still do pose possible threats and problems to our society. There are other societies that are more accepting of these individuals, but I fear that not only will there be problems for the Uighurs assimilating into American culture, but vice versa for Americans encountering the Uighurs if they are released. Knowing already that they were against the Chinese government and aligned themselves with aspects of radical Islam, there is good reason to believe that they may come to dislike or despise the culture in the states after a matter of time. Based on their behavior in Gitmo with the television incident, they may not like seeing women with equal rights to men, wearing revealing clothing, showing their hair, seeing homosexual couples in public, the practicing of various religions, etc.
Saudi Judge Rules Against 8 Yr. Old Girl, Enforces Marriage to 47 Yr. Old
I guess this is what Obama was bowing down to the other day. I, however, would not be granted the “luxury” to even look King Abdullah in the eye for being a woman. If I recall correctly, Saudi’s also don’t let women drive cars under national law as well as various other barbaric legislation and rules.
I am still waiting to hear from the feminists on Middle Eastern misogyny. These liberals want to protect these countries from “war” but allow for the mistreatment, objectification and disdain for females that they so abhor here (although there may still be some sexism and glass ceilings, we are far from being barbaric and abusive towards women). Unless, of course, you’re a conservative female running for office. The liberal left continues to have the misconceived notion that they maintain a monopoly on feminism and that feminism is only a political ideology, when its intent was for all women of every background to have equal rights.
If these hypocrites, like Annette Benning, want to go over to hostile countries in the Middle East and wear burkas and attempt to engage in diplomacy, then I suggest they stay there and conform to their culture for a year and see how they like being a woman over there. I prefer to keep mandatory burkas and Sharia law out of the United States, thank you very much.
A Saudi mother is expected to appeal a judge’s ruling after he once again refused to let her 8-year-old daughter divorce a 47-year-old man, a relative said.
Sheikh Habib Al-Habib made the ruling Saturday in the Saudi city of Onaiza. Late last year, he rejected a petition to annul the marriage.
The case, which has drawn criticism from local and international rights groups, came to light in December when Al-Habib declined to annul the marriage on a legal technicality. His dismissal of the mother’s petition sparked outrage and made headlines around the world.
The judge said the mother, who is separated from the girl’s father, was not the legal guardian and therefore could not represent her daughter, the mother’s lawyer, Abdullah al-Jutaili, said at the time.
Why is the mother not the legal guardian of the child after separation from the father? Oh, that’s right, she’s a female.
The girl’s husband pledged not to consummate the marriage until the girl reaches puberty, according to al-Jutaili, who added that the girl’s father arranged the marriage to settle his debts with the man, who is considered “a close friend.”
How considerate of him… Selling your child to pay off your own bad debts – I have no words for this, just disgust!
In March, an appeals court in the Saudicapital of Riyadh declined to certify the original ruling, in essence rejecting al-Habib’s verdict, and sent the case back to al-Habib for reconsideration.
Under the Saudi legal process, the appeals court ruling meant that the marriage was still in effect, but that a challenge to the marriage was still ongoing.
The religion of peace – unless you are a woman, child or an infidel…
