Major Garrett Punished by White House Because Fox Did Not Carry Presser

Here I was thinking that Garrett was a big Obama supporter – if anything he was extremely fair and balanced and if anything appeared to be center-left.  This is not a good move IMO by the White House.

And indeed, he wasn’t called on. Did that ever happen with Bush? I know he skipped Helen Thomas sometimes because he didn’t like her and/or the tone of her questions, but did he ever punish a reporter because that reporter’s agency refused to give him free exposure? It turned out to be a savvy business decision by Fox, but then, in our new command economy, it’s hard to blame The One for insisting that he get his way.  It turned out to be a savvy business decision by Fox, but then, in our new command economy, it’s hard to blame The One for insisting that he get his way.

Take a listen to Brian and the Judge to hear the whole story from Major Garrett:

New Fairness Doctrine, “Media Diversity”

The FCC will hold a panel discussion entitled media diversity that will consist of 31 media and liberal grievance groups.  The not so surprising thing to all of us will be the lack of representative of conservative outlets and radio programs.  Not one conservative group will be represented in this commission; (media diversity?)

The gathering will take play next week, Thursday, May 7, 2009.

Chairing the meeting is Henry Rivera, a former FCC Commissioner who was (and presumably still is) a strong proponent of the Censorship Doctrine, also mis-known as the “Fairness” Doctrine.

Many, many liberals in Washington have over the last several years called for a reinstatement of the Doctrine. But push-back from people who have read and actually understand the First Amendment led the Left to realize that the political price to bring it back was too high, so they MovedOn.org.

Of course, their desire to silence the lone voices of their opposition had not lessened in the slightest. They’re still just as dictatorial, just pragmatically so.

And it’s not just our imagination – it’s also our lying eyes. The Center for American Progress is a left-wing hack outfit headed by former Clinton Administration and Obama Transition Team adviser John Podesta. And they released on January 22, 2007 a report entitled “Local Media Diversity Matters – Measure Media Diversity According to Democratic Values, Not Market Values.”

I have warned previously that liberals will pass legislation that sounds Utopian and wonderful because of its clever language, but it means something else entirely.

I am all for diversity and equality, so let’s make it real easy and put the same amount of air time on for each opinion on all radio stations and media outlets… This FCC rule would force one side off the air – how constitutional/sarc!

The broadcast license is of course a station’s lifeblood; take it away, or make it impossible to meet the regulatory obligations to keep it, and they are literally out of business.  The Left, no longer comfortable with trying the top-down, all-out assault that is the “Fairness” Doctrine, intends instead to silence conservative and Christian talk via this broadcast license manipulation.

If they can succeed in making it impossible for talk radio to operate as a business, talk radio will cease to operate.  Leftist problem solved.

Newspapers Going Bankrupt; Dems Want Bailed Out ‘Independent’ Media

The New York Times and the Boston Globe are both in dire straits.  To add more fuel to the fire, the Boston Globe is owned by the New York Times and both papers are losing significant amounts of money and are experiencing severe debt problems.

As The New York Times Co. tries to bask in the glory of having bagged five Pulitzers, the company is facing a cash crunch that could put it on the path toward insolvency.

According to its first-quarter earnings report, the Times said it had cash and cash equivalents totaling $294 million.

However, $260 million of that is earmarked to pay off debt that matures in March 2010, effectively leaving the company with $34 million.

That’s a particularly precarious position to be in, given the Gray Lady posted a wider-than-expected, first-quarter loss of $74.5 million amid worsening advertising declines, and is scrambling to raise cash as it labors under a $1.3 billion debt load.

This should be an indication of ultra liberal slants on newspapers and how they fare in Capitalist environments.  Most newspapers will probably go the way of the Internet with paid member subscriptions, but it’s quite interesting how most of the papers going out of business are more liberal than right-leaning. Susan Roesgen From CNN Told to Take a Break

Sweet justice!

CNN’s Susan Roesgen has had a rough week, what with all the ordinary American/First Amendment practitioners bashing she so passionately and obnoxiously delivered in her TEA Party reporting.

Perhaps it was the sniping at the place she twice applied in 2005 – Rupert Murdoch’s House of Ratings, otherwise known as Fox News – that put her over the edge.

Or whether or not her email box was so overwhelmed with what was undoubtedly an endless stream of love letters and fan mail that it caused a server meltdown.

Whatever it was, CNN has announced that Miss Roesgen’s “tak(ing) a break.”

Two days after Susan Roesgen’s much talked-about Chicago Tea Party live shots, we are learning more about what happened off-camera.

Sources close to the situation tell TVNewser as Roesgen was reporting her 2pmET live shot for CNN, she heard shouts from the crowd including “Damn CNN” and “Shut up, bitch.”

As we now know, Roesgen wrapped up the live shot, saying “I think you get the general tenor of this,” that it was “not really family viewing” from an “Anti-CNN” crowd.

Our source says Roesgen received an avalanche of email messages, some supportive, and some “vitriolic with crude insults.”

Here are some of my thoughts for why she is “taking a break.”

A: Going in for the 28 day, 12-step program cure
B: Getting her out of town to avoid the incoming flak
C: Giving her 30 days to consider her unique qualifications for self-employment
D: Recovering from her Teabagging episode with Wolfe Blitzer
E: Cleansing herself at some swanky spa after getting dirty with all those filthy average working Americans.

We shall see!
